HIKING: Mountains, forests, wilderness, mushrooms, wild berries. Ask at the
Sullivan Lake Ranger Station (509 446-7500) for information, maps, and suggestions.
PICNIC AREAS:
Campbell Park at Box Canyon Dam (swimming, and free camping too!), and picnic areas above and below Boundary Dam.
Metaline Falls City Park, Metaline City Park,Ione City Park, (with heated swimming pool). Day use is welcome in
campgrounds; Noisy Creek and Sullivan Lake offer swimming areas.
BOATING AND FISHING: Boat ramps available at Ione, Campbell Park, Metaline, Boundary Dam picnic area,
East Sullivan, and Noisy Creek. SAFETY NOTE: ask locally about hazards at Box Canyon and the
"falls" north of Metaline.
WILDLIFE, FISHING, AND HUNTING: Some fish released from our net pens have been growing in the river
for five years! Local hunting is excellent in the fall. Watch for deer (often in the road!), elk, bear, beaver,
eagles, osprey, heron, etc. Look for mountain goats from the observation area on Boundary Dam Road. Big Horn
Sheep come to a feeding station at Noisy Creek Camp Ground in the Winter.
GOLF COURSE AND GUN CLUB: Two miles north of Metaline Falls. Low prices, occasional wildlife.
A nine hole golf course is also available at Serendipity Golf Club located just south of Ione on the east side
of Pend Oreille River.
GARDNER CAVE:
A large limestone cavern, near Boundary Dam. (See signs at highway intersection in Metaline to see if
tours are available.)
MILL POND HISTORICAL SITE:
A walking tour at a beautiful small lake with a display about a 1910 hydroelectric project.
BOX CANYON DAM:
Proudly owned and operated by the people of the county, providing low cost power for residents and local
industry. Visitor center, tours and Campbell Park. For more Information call (509 442-3232).
BOUNDARY DAM – Seattle City Light: The rim of this 340' concrete dam curves out over the base. The generators are in a chamber carved in the rock of the canyon wall. Free tours in the summer. For more Information call (509 446-3083).
