About PORTA
Pend Oreille River Tourism Alliance
Our Mission

The purpose of the Pend Oreille River Tourism Alliance is to create a responsible tourism economy in the Pend Oreille River Community in ways sensitive to the culture, heritage and environment of the region.

PORTA provides an organized forum through which all tourism interests in Pend Oreille County can come together for a coordinated, focused tourism development program.

We work to maximize additional overnight visitors and traveler expenditures, increase state and local tax revenues, and provide job opportunities.

 PORTA is a non-profit organization partially funded through local tourism Hotel/Motel Tax funds. Those funds derive from tax levies charged by lodging establishments throughout Pend Oreille County on each visitor’s stay at each facility.

Making it Happen
With the combined effort of our Board and community stakeholders, PORTA promotes and markets Pend Oreille County as a destination for leisure and tourist travel.

The Bottom Line

  • In 2006, annual travel expenditures in Pend Oreille County equaled $21.5 Million
  • The travel industry contributed $5.4 million in travel related job earnings to Pend Oreille County
  • Nearly $1.2 million in local and state taxes are generated here every year through tourism
Membership
PORTA is recruiting the individuals and businesses bringing this together to impact the economy of our region in a positive way. To compete for tourism dollars is not an inexpensive endeavor. Single-handed it can be a daunting task. Multi-handed it accomplishes far greater results.
PORTA. has developed a multi-tier involvement so everyone can have a measure of involvement in tourism development.
